Both main leads are originally civilians who was thrust into the war when trying to save their twin sisters with whom they were separated at birth.

Both main leads have twins sisters who was separated from them at birth.

Luke's twin sister, Leia, is so called a Princess who is actually a politician whose foster father is a powerful politician.
Kira's twin sister, Cagalli, is also called the Princess of Orb. She is also a powerful political whose late foster father was the Leader of Orb.

In both series, the brother is adopted by civilian whereas the sister is adopted by a politician.

Leia is able to use the force quite well and Cagalli, in her seed mode, is comparable to Kira when he is not in seed mode.
